9 days to go

If you don't see or hear from us this week don't take it personally. We are absolutely NOT ready to leave the country for four months and we are just realizing it. So this is the week of last minute everything.  Packing for three seasons!  Figuring out which books and toys to take!  Getting our house ready for subletters!  Preparing classes for when I get there!  Final plans for boys new schools!  Mental preparation!  Housing!  Visas!

It'a a week of exclamation marks, panic attacks, final social gatherings and copious wine nightly.
The news of the world is so extraordinary right now.  It will be so interesting to watch the way it all unfolds from outside the U.S.  Certain to be a fascinating time.

Still working on housing and where we will exactly be living but once we know we'll pass it on in case you are in our neighborhood :)
Will post lots of photos here too I'm sure to be sure to check back or "follow" us.

Departure date is set! March 1.

Hi Friends,
This blog will follow the adventures of Daniel Luka and Sasha Channer Rovinsky (and their parents) as they embark on four months of living in St. Petersburg Russia!  Daniel is all set to attend a Montessori School and Sasha will attend the Anglo-American School of St. Petersburg for March - June. They are both hoping for a lot of snow ("hopefully PACKING snow!" - Sasha) and hanging out with their family there.  This will be Sasha's fourth trip to Russia and Daniel's first.
So far, there is little we know for certain about the four months.  It's an open ended adventure is many ways and we are getting excited about starting it!
What we do know:

  • Lisa will be teaching at the St. Petersburg State Academy of Theatre Arts as a visiting Fulbright Scholar
  • Volodya will be hanging out with friends, colleagues, his daughter Sonia and his mother and sister Ludmilla and Lena Rovinskaya.
  • Lisa will be traveling some to conduct research for a new play, visit other directors and observe new work.
  • Volodya will finish his advanced training in Biomechanics with his teacher Alexei Levinsky in Moscow.
  • We will be living in our own apartment somewhere in the city.
  • There will be drinking of vodka.
Follow here as we send updates and observations about life in Russia for two American boys and their parents!
